New12 April 2017 Multistakeholder brainstorming meeting: "Pancreatic cancer research priorities in Europe"

The purpose of this meeting was to perform a global scale analysis of pancretatic cancer research unmet needs to assess the actions needed to be done in Europe. Several EUPancreas members and Pancreatic Cancer Europe (PCE) Multistakeholders were invited to discuss on this issue during this Brainstorming Meeting.

Debates were held around the identification and prioritization of the main aspects to address in pancreatic cancer research in Europe in accordance with the international scenario. Strategies to lobby to increase awareness on pancreatic cancer research needs and funding in Europe were also discussed.

A report summarizing the conclusions of the meeting, with a prioritized list of PC research areas and actions, was drafted.

28 - 29 October 2016 EFISDS meeting "Pancreatic cancer: Where are we now? & Where are we going?"
Cluj-Napoca, Romania romaniaThis second edition of the scientific workshop on pancreas cancer research and management included special sessions to dedicated to pancreatitis, precursor lesions of pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cancer, and surgical-related issues. Members of EUPancreas COST Action presented some of the latest advances on these issues.

Co-organizers of the meeting are EUpancreas, Romanian Pancreatic Club, Romanian Society of Surgery, PCE (pancreatic cancer Europe) & the University of Medicine in Cluj. Members of EUPancreas will be participating in sessions on omics contribution to disentangle the molecular complexity of pancreatic cancer, biomarkers development for diagnosing pancreatic cancer, PanINs in chronic pancreatitis, familial pancreatic cancer, PancreOS the European pancreatic cancer clinical registry, among others.

30 September 2016 EU Action on Pancreas Cancer
Gastein, Austria The EUPancreas COST Action aims to maximize through this event the impact of pancreatic cancer research on policy makers, regulatory bodies, national decision makers and the private sector. Key stakeholders from administration, academia, NGOs and industry will discuss how a European coordinated approach to combat pancreatic cancer via the COST Action „EUPancreas". Experiences from the Action will be described to contribute to improving the management of this disease in European Reference Centers (ERCs).

6 - 9 July 2016 WG3 meeting, MC meeting and 48th ANNUAL MEETING OF THE EUROPEAN PANCREATIC CLUB

The annual meeting of European Pancreatic Club 2016 brings together diverse disciplines involved in the study of the exocrine and endocrine pancreas. Topics covered this year are Pancreatic Cancer: The place of surgery and local and systemic therapies, Cystic tumours, genetics and epigenetics of pancreatic diseases, pancreatic cancer: the stroma and inflammation, among many others of high scientific relevance.

The WG3 meeting (7th July) and aims to update work progress on the ongoing and the future planned activities. The 7th MC meeting will take place on 8th July.

22 - 23 June 2016 European Pancreas Cancer Epidemiology Workshop and 2016 Pancreatic Cancer Case Control Consortium (PanC4)

The European Pancreas Cancer Epidemiology Worshop is an activity organized by WG1. It wishes to bring European epidemiologists interested in pancreas cancer together and to identify areas of common interest to potentiate pancreas cancer research as well as to lobby on this area in Europe and beyond.

The workshop contemplates presentations of projects and studies conducted by WG1 members. The Panc4 conference will focus on recent progress of the Consortium projects though specially emphasizing the role of infectious agents and microbioma in the aetiology of pancreas cancer, this including diabetes mellitus and obesity as its risk factors. To this end, a mini-symposium on this topic

"Microbiome and Pancreatic cancer" is planned.

3 - 7 May 2016 WG3 TRAINING SCHOOL on "GENOMIC MEDICINE - Bridging research and the clinic" jointly organized with ARTEMIDA, Golden Helix Institute of Biomedical Research Genomic Medicine Alliance
Portoroz, Slovenia event-2016-05-04Topics of interest to the Action such as oxidative stress, rare cancers, epidemiology, pathogenesis/pathology, and treatment modalities for pancreas cancer, as well as personalized medicine and public health will be among the topics of the school. ECIs will be specially welcome. In addition, a Satellite workshop "In vitro and in vivo models for development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches" will take place on May 3rd 2016.

27 - 29 April 2016 WG2 TRAINING SCHOOL on Interactions in Complex Disease Analysis. The world of interactions around us, co-organized by Antwerp University (Joost Weyler and Kristel Sleegers) and co-sponsored by the Belgian Society of Statistics
Antwerp, Belgium The school will cover the different scenarios of data analysis where interaction needs to be assessed. An introduction on what interactions are and are not in addition to deal with gene*gene and gene*environment interactions will be given. A hands-on with examples and practical training is also planned.Objectives of the event are to train members, especially ECIs, in statistics on omics data interaction assessment; to create a network of members expert in statistics to be applied to pancreas cancer research in different countries of EU; to increase the EUPancreas membership; and to disseminate on the EUPancreas activities. The participation of ECIs is specially promoted promoted since parallel courses are being organized such one on laparoscopic surgical skills planned by the Dutch Society.Reviewing and prioritizing the goals and activities for each WG as well as for the whole Action as well as to plan the activities for the 4 Grant Period are among the objectives of this Event.

1st July 2015 WG2 - OMICS INTEGRATION IN PDAC WORKSHOP: "Cancer genomics and personalised medicine workshop: focus on pancreas cancer".
Barcelona, Spain This workshop will offer examples of the application of omics in pancreatic cancer with the ultimate goal of enhancing pancreatic cancer care and the prevention of this disease. Other objectives are to identify emerging groups working on omics data analysis and foster collaborations between them and PDAC omics data generating groups; to look for available omics data on PDAC and evaluate the possibility to pool them; to train members, specially ECIs; and to increase awareness on pancreas cancer research and EUPancreas.

  • Plenary Session V. Personalised medicine and a European Big Data-driven economy.
  • Plenary Session VI. Unlocking the value of research to provide evidence and education of healthcare professions to realize the benefits for today and tomorrow´s discoveries.

In these plenary sessions, the importance to develop and adequately resource a pancreatic cancer patient-centred European Translational Research Platform was highlighted through the COST Action.

27 April 2015 WG1 MEETING and PDAC BIOBANKING WORKSHOP organized jointly with the Institute of Pathology of The University of Heidelberg
Madrid, Spain Members from different workgroups of COST Action BM1204 visited the NCT and EPZ biobanks and were informed by the biobank leaders, Esther Herpel (NCT) and Nathalia Giese (EPZ), about organizational features, protocols and standard operating procedures that are in place at these facilities.

A forum for state of the art clinical and basic research in pancreatic cancer
London, UK The London Pancreas Workshop was launched in 2006 and now convenes every two years. The Workshop attracts delegates from the UK and abroad, comprising of clinicians (surgeons, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, oncologists amongst others), scientists, pharmaceutical company representatives and pancreatic cancer charity representatives. A wide range of topics relating to pancreatic cancer clinical and scientific problems are discussed and progress updates presented.

Heidelberg, Germany This workshop was held at the Funcional Genome Analysis Unit of the German cancer reserch center DFKZ. (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum).
