Currently, Simone Benitz is a PhD student in the work group of Prof. Jörg Kleeff at the Surgery Department of the Klinikum rechts der Isar in Munich.
From 2007 to 2012, she studied Molecular Medicine at the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg. During her diploma thesis, she analyzed the role of Interleukin-1 in the progression of esophageal cancer.
In 2012 she started working on her PhD thesis. In the scope of her project, she focuses on the elucidation of epigenetic changes in pancreatic carcinogenesis. Here, she is mainly interested in the role of the Polycomb Repressor Complex 1.
In April 2015 she completed a COST-funded scientific placement in the lab of Prof. Francisco Real at the CNIO in Madrid.
